The Horsehead Nebula Region.

Centered on Barnard33, the Horsehead Nebula, is a collection of several other fine sights. The long, diffuse reddish nebula that backdrops B33 is IC434. Left of the Horsehead is the blue reflection nebula of NGC2023, and further to the left is the dimmer IC435. Both of these are set aglow by 8th magnitude stars.

Alnitak, the second-brightest star in Orion's belt, is on the northern edge of the image, with a tiny bit of NGC2024, the Flame Nebula, barely visible to its left. Finally, we see Sigma Orionis at right, with one of its small companions trying to poke through the glare of the brighter star. This multiple star system is actually the brightest member of the Sigma Orionis Cluster, or Garrison-1.

David,

I wish I could see it from my backyard.

Thanks,

Tom
