Jupiter with Europa and Ganymede


The gas giant Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun and the largest planet within the Solar System. How large? It is 2.5 times as massive as all of the other planets in our Solar System combined.

Jupiter is seen here on the evening of May 7, 2007, with 2 of its moons: Europa above, Ganymede below. Io, apparently camera-shy, was just outside the lefthand edge of the picture, and Callisto was even farther off to the left.
