Spiral galaxy NGC 4565 displays an edge-on view that allows us to see its central bulge, composed mostly of older yellowish stars, and its dark dust lane, composed of dust and gas that might yet go on to form new stars.
NGC 4565 is about 30 million light years away, and about 130,000 light years in diameter. It is very similar to our own Milky Way galaxy, but is slightly more massive.
