Eastern Portion of the Veil Nebula complex NGC 6992
This picture is a composite of two images made with an 85mm f/5.6 APO refractor using an SBIG ST-2000XM CCD camera.
The Veil complex is a supernova remnant composed of three distinct nebulae spanning 3x3 degrees of space. The three segments are usually referred to the Eastern veil, the Western veil or Witch's broom and Pickering's Triangle. The supernova causing this complex occurred somewhere around 5,000 to 8,000 years ago.
