NGC 6188, an emission nebula in the southern sky

NGC 6188 just 4000 light years away in our own galaxy, and is located in the southern constellation of Ara. Discovered by John Herschel in 1836, he wrote that it "consists of about a dozen stars 10..11 magnitude, and perhaps as many less, with stragglers, which fill the field."
