December 15 2009 M33 Triangulum Galaxy taken with Hyperstar 3 |

|
Messier 33 is magnificent face-on spiral galaxy. It is know as Triangulum Galaxy or Pinwheel Galaxy.
At 50,000 light years across, M33 is the third largest galaxy in our local group. First in size would be Andromeda Galaxy (M31), and our own Milky Way.
Estimates indicate that Triangulum may be home to between 30 and 40 billion stars, compared to 200-400 billion for the Milky Way, and 1 trillion stars for Andromeda.
86 minutes total, 2 - 4 minute subs
Taken with 11" Celestron Nexstar GPS on wedge, Starlight Xpress M25C, Lumicon Deep Sky filter.
Guided with Atik 16IC on Stellarvue Nighthawk 80.
Stacked and initial stretch in MaximDL, finished in Photoshop.
After a week in France for astrophotography with only so-so weather, we had 1 1/2 good nights in the Netherlands, so I made the best of it til 5AM!. Here is the first photo.
