47 Tucanae and the SMC


The great southern globular cluster 47 Tucanae, and the Small Magellanic Cloud. Taken with Canon 400D at 200mm, 10 x 1 min, ISO 1600, F/5.6.

Thanks all! mb, the lens is just a cheapo Sigma 55-200mm zoom lens. David, the main cost of the image is in astrophotography-related madness. I use an entry-level DSLR (400D), a cheap secondhand lens, and for this shot a borrowed EQ5 mount. Usually I manually guide on an old EQ1 mount. No computerised mounts, and expensive cameras, telescope etc. You don't need big bucks for a shot like this!
