M104 - Sombrero Galaxy in Virgo


Data collected with a 10 inch RCOS Ritchey Chretien on an AP900GTO Mount, SBIGST10XME/CFW10 and water assisted cooling. 8 x 600s Luminance only 1x Bin. Sub exposures calibrated, aligned and stacked in CCDStack. Final adjustments in Photoshop CS2.

Effective Focal Length 2276.7mm - .62" per Pixel

That is fantastic, especially for only 8 ten min subs. The detail in the galaxy is just superb. I'd imagine the seeing was very good when you took this. You've also processed it very well IMO.
You must be thrilled with this.

Matt, I shot this from almost 33 Degrees North which means means that M104 doesn't get all that high and it's not readily accessible for a long period of time. In fact the data collected was the sum total possible in one night. The second night had some low clouds that made it impossible to collect more data. I had aspirations of doing this in color but I simply did not have enough time available. I'll revisit this target again. Thanks again everyone !
